Day 1: A late departure (3:30pm) means time to pack and spend with Jim before I go. This seems like a luxury; I am usually packing my bags past midnight and leaving for the airport before 5a.m. Which makes for a very bleary good bye. However, I miscalculated the loading time and end up being the last person to board!

I was excited when the pilot announced we were preparing to land. It was 12 years ago our family departed from Irian Jaya to return to the States. Now I was returning to the same island but on the other side in the country of Papua New Guinea. We landed in the capitol city of Port Moresby. Right away I could see a big difference from Irian Jaya. PNG, as it is called, has had a long relationship with Australia and many imports from Australia. Yet, at the same time, some things are very much the same. The main thing is the Papuan people.
